I am currently having my paintings made into GICLÉE and canvas prints by the Sierra Studio in Illinois .
GICLÉE is a French word meaning spraying of ink. GICLÉE art reproduction is considered by many to be the finest available today. The color is much richer and long-lasting than any other reproduction method. The blacks and deep tones provide an impressive dimension of color. These prints are reproduced on the finest European archival, acid-free, 100% cotton rag paper, using long-lasting pigment based inks that do not run. They are not iris prints which use dye based inks and will run if water accidentally makes contact with them. GICLÉE prints can also be reproduced on canvas of varying sizes. This can add an "original art" flavor to the work and can eliminate the need for framing with glass and matting.
Current testing by Wilhelm Research indicates an archival rating of over one hundred years- quite possibly over two hundred years. "Archival" means non-fading or light fast. In other words, these prints won't fade for a long time. Care for Giclee prints is the same as for original watercolors. Keep out of direct sun for prolonged periods of time and avoid moisture. For extra protection in a sun-filled room, use UV Protection glass or Plexiglas.
My GICLÉES for watercolors are reproduced on acid free, mould made, 285gsm Hahnemuhle Torchon paper or 100% cotton rag acid-free paper with a fine textured velvet surface, 255gsm Sommerset paper which includes a 1" border. Oil GICLÉES are printed on premium cotton canvas, rolled and protected in layered brown craft paper which can be stretched, mounted or sewn for easy framing. It's water resistant and UV resistant which comes with a 2" border.
All GICLÉES are signed by the artist and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Order pages can be found in the galleries as you view the paintings. |
